She Loves Me was performed at Temple Civic Theatre February 16-18 and February 22-25, 2007.
The plot revolved around two employees of a small Budapest shop who are constantly at odds with each other at work, unaware that each is the other's secret pen pal.
The book is by Joe Masteroff, with music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. (Bock and Harnick wrote Fiddler on the Roof and Masteroff wrote the book for Cabaret.)
The musical was adapted from the play Parfumerie by Hungarian playwright Miklos Lazslo. The 1940 film The Shop around the Corner (starring James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan) was based on Lazslo's play. Parfumerie also served as the inspiration for another musical, the 1949 Judy Garland film In the Good Old Summertime, as well as the Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan romantic comedy, You've Got Mail.
Georg Nowack (Kirk German) works at Maraczek's Parfumerie and is an anonymous pen pal of fellow employee Amalia Balash (Regina Baird). They can't stand one another at work.
Ilona Ritter (Rachel Wolfe) is a dedicated worker and has an off-and-on relationship with Steven Kodaly (Todd Gregory), one in a long line of bad relationships.
Ladislav Sipos (Brian Smith) is a fellow employee of Maraczek's Parfumerie and is a true friend to Georg. Arpad Laszlo (Ross Akers) is the youngest employee at Maraczek's Parfumerie. He rides a bike to work as a messenger for the shop, but he dreams of being promoted to clerk.
Mr. Maraczek (Michael Fox) is the boss of a parfumerie that bears his name. He watches over everything at his store, seeing that every cosmetic is sold.
Other cast members include Ed Boyle, Keller; Leon Perkins, headwaiter and Jordan Hahn, busboy. Parfumerie customers include Andi Billeck, Una Forgy and Paige Rendon.
The ensemble includes Debbie Cable Brown, Craig Connally, Jeff Edds, Jordan Hahn, Sara Whitaker and Alisa Zabcik.
Production staff includes Tim Campbell, director; David Perez-Guerra, musical director; Sarah Nell Summers, vocal director; Susan Gosney, choreographer; Mac Lower, technical director and Lori Honeycutt, stage manager.
